Nothing But The Funk...
Calumet is a multi-racial, multi-gender family of dedicated musicians with various musical backgrounds, performing together for one reason: "Millennium Funk!" Driven by many innovators of yester-year, Calumet aspires to be the hybrid of Sly Stone meets Dave Mathews.

Calumet has been performing for the past five years, and continues to build a following of fans who have grown tired of what today's "teen oriented" market has to offer. Calumet's long time bookings at Scottsdale's Sugar Daddy's, and Next Nightclub during the long gone "live music" days of Scottsdale in 2001-2003, brought the band into the mainstream of the Valley's live music followers. Since then, Calumet has captured audiences and media acclaim for their dedication to dance oriented funk music, and their ability to bring an audience into their own "funky realm."

Calumet's high-power "Funk n' Roll" sound comes from founder Eric "E.T." Mobley (lead vocalist, keyboardist) and his relationships with fellow musicians who share his vision of a more wide-spread "funk" driven sound.

Founded in 2001 by Eric "E.T." Mobley with the help of a few local valley session players, Calumet has transformed a retro-session project into the hottest live ensemble featuring the valley's hottest musicians with years of experience beneath their belts.

E.T. Mobley hails from Calumet City, Illinois, and distills the inner-city rhythm and blues upbringing into the foundation of Calumet's innovative "millennium funk" sound. Mobley blends the musicality of yesterdays soul, with the vibrant, up-beat rhythms and tempos of today. Calumet's sound is derived straight from the foundations of todays Hip-Hop and Techno-House Scene. A mixture of synchopations, hook driven melodies, power-vocal lines, and the almighty "funk" attitude, geared up to bring a house down on any given night.

Along side E.T. Mobley, longtime Calumet members Lauren Merchant (Lead Vocals), Marvin Scott (Saxaphone/Keyboards), and Marlon Burno (Lead Guitar) have provided dedication, and stability for the funk phenomenon. The latest additions to the Calumet family occurred in 2005 with the addition of Marcus Weeden (Bass Guitar), and "Disko" D.K. Mueller (Drums). With the addition of several local musician "friends" who sit in on a whim, sometimes Calumet consists of up to 10 members.

Calumet continues to take the public by storm. Part rhythm and blues, part vintage funk attitude, and the polishing of today's dance oriented syncopations, Calumet breathes life into the stagnant mainstream of indie-rock and teeny-bopper based shallow artists. Calumet breaks the "pop" culture mold by taking its listeners back to the days of pure musical indulgence consisting of "hook" driven melodies and "positive-vibe" sing-along vocal harmonies. This band prides itself on disco-era vamps, four on the floor syncopations, and four part vocal harmonies.

No fake afros, no backing tracks, no "live karaoke" for this groove-driven dancing machine. The music is hot, the vocals are live, the bass is thumping, and the beats will make the most rhythmically challenged dancer in the joint want to get up and boogie down! Can I get a witness?
